TMS - step-by-step example on how to setup and test TMS

$

I have installed ECC6 (AS ABAP) on NW2004s on Oracle, Windows platform. This is a 1-system landscape.

I would like to work hands-on with Transport Management System(TMS). I have read the theory part.

I need a document that shows how to setup a test TMS (transport route, package e.t.c.) , create a test transport, export and import the test transport in a 1-system landscape?

I'm looking for a simple test case that will help me understand TMS.

Thanks

Software Update Manager: Clean up tasks, Shadow Instance & Temp. Tablespace X

Hi Experts,

I wanted to know that after an upgrade activity using SUM (Software Update Manager) how should I proceed with the cleanup tasks.

As SUM uses a shadow instance for the upgrade and for which a temporary table space is required, we can release some space once the upgrade has completed, right?

In my case (SPS08 upgrade in Solution Manager 7.1), a temporary tablespace PSAPSR3702X of 32GB was required before execution.

So I created that in order to upgrade my system.

upload.JPG

My upgrade went successful, and now I would like to cleanup the space that was occupied during the upgrade.

I believe that scope here for cleanup is:

1) The temporary SAP Tablespace PSAPSR3720X (32 GB), data file is under /oracle/<SID>/sapdata4

2) SUM Directory (Upgrade directory /usr/sap/<SID>/SUM, which is 21G and contains the logs, files, shadow instance)

What should be the approach to process the clean-up post upgrade?

A) Is this approach feasible?

  1. Stop SAP & DB
  2. Drop SAP Temporary Tablespace
  3. Drop SUM Directory
  4. Start SAP & DB and validate

I also looked up SAP note 1732061, which is central note for SUM, it talks about, Do not select "Cleanup and start afresh" before finalization.

So in the postprocessing phase after the upgrade completes and just before Finalization phase, I have selected "Continue" as per the above mentioned note during the upgrade.

upload.JPG

B) Or is it that, if I start SUM again and I get an option in the beginning "Cleanup & Start Afresh" which shall do the necessary cleanup, though I am not really sure, if this the possible feature of SUM!

Which is the correct approach? Could you please suggest, as I have worked with SUM for the first time.

Regards,

Akshay.

INSTANCE and MULTIPLE INSTANCES

Hi,

I am new to SAP, please can anyone tell me whether instances is like adding of new server and installing the sap and giving the instance numbers as (00,01,02,.....). Central Instance instance number is given as 00 and all other instances as (01,02,...).

Here, what I want the clarification is creating a new instance is adding a new server and installing SAP and instance number as 01 & coming to database, it is installed on the central instance and used by all the servers(instances) or database is separately on different server. What I understood is correct or wrong? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Easier way to extract .SAR and .CAR files with SAPCAR under Windows

Hi All

http://fireswordblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/easier-way-to-extract-sar-and-car-files.html

We all know that there is no GUI for SAPCAR so far.

It would be a lot easier if there was a DDL library or so, to write a program GUI.

Anyway

I found out some people made this thing working with manipulating the registry.

Well it is OK, but I found a easy & better solution for me:

1. Get SAPCAR.EXE and put it in c:\windows\system32  (or any other folder that persists in the default windows paths)

2. In the same folder make a file SAPCAR_e.BAT with the following contents:

SAPCAR.EXE -xvf %~sf1

3. You are ready, all you have to do is make CAR and SAR files open by SAPCAR_e.BAT.

Right click on such a file and set that in the Properties window.

Result: Now when you double click a SAR/CAR file it will extract in the same folder

Advantage: If you want to upgrade SAPCAR all you have to do is replace the SAPCAR.EXE in c:\windows\system32

Today I made this post in my blog.

Does anyone know a better, comfortable way to do that. Is there any GUI for SAPCAR.EXE.

Just wanted to share some thoughts....

Thanks

Good morning

I'm upgrading the EA-FINSERV from 600 to 604 and this activity is like an upgrade using the same tool .

I didn't have problem during the prepare but at the end of this before downtime in phase MAIN_DTTRANS/STOPSAP_TRANS! an error occurs:

Last error code set: Process 'sapcontrol' exited with 1, see '/sapmnt/M1E/tempexp/EHPI/abap/log/SAPehpi.ECO

looking the SAPehpi.ECO i have the error:

**

Process with ID 3913 terminated with status 1

*

Reexecuting the same program on OS Sun Solaris i have the same error:

23.03.2010 08:23:27

I don't understand why and i didn't find any solution ....the system is open now

but i can't go in downtime phase for this error. any workaround or solution? thanks

Nicola
